Windows Server 2019 includes four key areas of investment, each of which is briefly described below. Hybrid: With Windows Server 2019 and Windows Admin Center, our clients will find it easier to connect their existing on-premises environments to Azure. Windows Admin Center makes it easy for clients running Windows Server 2019 to use Azure services such as Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery and to add new services in the future. Security: Our clients continue to prioritize security, and we are committed to helping them improve their security posture. Windows Server 2016 began this journey. Windows Server 2019 builds on that solid foundation, adding several security capabilities shared with Windows 10, such as Defender ATP for servers and Defender Exploit Guard. Application Platform: Containers are gaining popularity as developers and operations teams recognize the advantages of running in this new format. In addition to the work we’ve done on Windows Server 2016, we’ve been working on the Semi-Annual Channel releases, which will culminate in Windows Server 2019. Examples include Linux containers on Windows, development of the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), and reduced container images. Hyper-converged Infrastructure (HCI): If you’re thinking about upgrading your physical or host server infrastructure, consider HCI. This new deployment paradigm enables you to integrate computation, storage, and networking onto the same nodes, lowering infrastructure costs while improving performance, scalability, and reliability. Microsoft has significantly reduced the size of container images to boost speed. The Server Core containers are still one-third of their previous size. App compatibility has been improved, and Windows now supports Kubernetes and Linux containers.
