WindowTop is a tool for keeping windows on top of one another. The program is shareware; the free version has several limitations. You’ll have to reset the window positions each time you use it, since preserving settings is only available in the Pro edition.

It’s generally straightforward to use; once launched, it stays in the system tray, out of the way. Hover your cursor over the top of any window, and a little arrow will emerge. When you click it, a toolbar will display. This toolbar appears in any window, regardless of how it is displayed, and can be dragged wherever you like. This toolbar lets you adjust opacity, enable dark mode, resize a window, and pin it to the top.
Among the features I would highlight:
- Transparency is useful when you want to observe what’s happening outside the window; you can copy data from one window to another without switching back and forth.
- Place a topic at the top of all other standards for chats, notes, or reference materials.
- Lock the window’s location and size to keep it from being mistakenly moved.
- Window shade reduces the window to its title bar, which is a lifesaver on small displays.

You may also edit the title bar by hiding it entirely or changing its color and size. It’s a minor detail that can come in handy sometimes. The application is lightweight, consumes few resources, and operates quietly in the background. DeskPins
is identical to it—a very simple free program that merely allows you to pin windows on top of each other. OnTopReplica, which is similarly free, may show a clone of a window on top of another, but its functionality differs from OnTopReplica’s.
