MPC-QT, also known as Media Player Classic – Qute Theatre, is a sleek media player that mimics the UI of Media Player Classic Home Cinema. It was intriguing, and I wanted to share it with you; you can get it for free here.
Its older sibling is regarded as the benchmark player for Windows. This one uses Qt to recreate its interface and functionality, while libmpv handles video playback rather than DirectShow. It works on a variety of platforms, not only Windows; links to other operating systems are provided on the author’s website. This is not an exact duplicate, but rather an upgraded variation.

Features:
- Everything the MPC-HC can accomplish for the less demanding user
- Multiple playlists—for example, you may quickly add each series to a distinct playlist, and the program will remember where you left off in each. You do not need to keep a record of what you saw or where you were.
- The timeline preview is an interesting tool. Hover your mouse over the playback bar to see a thumbnail of the frame in that position.
- Online videos play without issue thanks to yt-dlp, which downloads videos from the Internet with subtitles and multiple audio tracks.
- A playlist can be shuffled to display the new order while maintaining the previous layout. You can always see what’s going to happen next.
- Quick Queue functions similarly to out-of-order playback in XMMS/QMMP players. Want to hear a few tracks from the midst of a playlist? No worries, the playlist itself will not break.
- Playlist search is straightforward, and there is a multi-threaded mode to help you locate what you’re looking for faster.
- Screenshot templates let you create your own file-naming format that includes only the information you need.
- The selected section repeats itself.
- Formatting your playlist lets you display metadata, including the artist, title, codec, and more.
- Custom themes
In short, I am delighted I discovered this application. I tested it briefly and have decided to share it with you. I hope you enjoyed it. Best of luck with your work!
