Boris FX has published a new version of Samplitude, and I’d like to offer a little evaluation. The Suite has been revised, and it is no longer only recording software; it now provides a complete cycle from track to master, including recording, mixing, and mastering—you will love it.
The main feature is object editing, which lets you select a clip segment, open it in the Object Editor, and add plugins and automation. You do not need to touch any other tracks, and it works extremely well for massive projects.
There are no concerns about recording; it can handle up to 999 tracks, takes are compressed, the hybrid audio engine produces a neutral sound, latency is low, and live monitoring is enjoyable. If you have a complicated scene, employ the High Latency Engine; the system runs more smoothly under heavy object and AUX loads.
MIDI is supported, including quantization, mapping, and arps. VST plugins are simple to set up, and VSTi support is available. Internal instruments cover the fundamentals, and for mixing and mastering, there are equalizers, compressors, limiters, and other tools with catchy names.
Workspaces can be customized for each task. The program’s super unique features include native Dolby Atmos, an ADM editor, a suite of Celemony Melodyne, Acon Digital Acoustica 7, SOUND FORGE Pro 17, and CrumplePop. Atmos offers a spacious soundscape, and ADM organizes metadata from cradle to finish. 3D Reverb adds depth, and the Hall and Plate presets sound rich. Place CrumplePop on a track, adjust a few knobs, and noise and rumble are reduced. Overall, it’s a cool feature I want to highlight. I believe many people will decide to try it for this reason alone.
On the plus side, I’d like to highlight the object-based approach, stable recording, out-of-the-box Atmos support, excellent integration with Melodyne and SOUND FORGE, and customizable workspaces.
This program is ideal for those who work in sound design, video composition, podcast hosting, or multitrack mixing.
